Derby County 0 - 1 Manchester United @ Pride Park, 16th March 2008

How can I put my feelings into words on this match?

When Chelsea whacked 6 goals past a bottom club, one cannot help but say United would have done the same.

Edwin Van Der Sar was out injured and Tomas Kuszcak was suspended so a start was handed to Ben Foster, a promising goalie from Stoke City.

Of course, once again the pre-match comments were filled with "confidence boosting" quotes and talks about "revenge" for their loss against Portsmouth. I knew that the players were going to be over-confident once more and will definitely screw something up but I still gave them the benefit of a doubt!

Anyway the match started brilliantly, as United attacked and tried to find the first goal in the space of 5minutes. Promising? yes.... BUT did they take their chances? NO!

The squad which included, Wes Brown, John O'Shea, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Cristiano Ronaldo, Anderson, Park Ji Sung and Wayne Rooney would most probably earn much more than what those Derby players do and yet with the performance the Derby players gave, it looked as if they deserved what the United players were earning instead.

Wave after wave of attack was squandered and although I was a bit critical on the Ronaldo-getting-fouled-all-the-time issue, I'm beginning to get frustrated with his acts, I mean, if you fall down and the ref doesn't give you a free-kick.. DON'T SIT THERE AND MOAN! GET UP AND FIGHT FOR THE BALL!

Gosh! I wish they would have a 1-800-CALLFERGIE hotline allowing fans to give him their views on who should be on and who should be off... Clearly Ryan Giggs (i respect the guy... totally) is out of form and he seems better off in Reserve matches than the high tempo league match! Not to mention Scholes was out of form too.

Besides those two, Rooney needs to grow up as well. He, like Ronaldo seemed to have set up a trend off falling on your asses and moaning! I just hope Anderson doesn't pick it up as he was brilliant throughout the match despite a lacklusture display from his collegues! Johnny O' Sheasy... PLEASE stop acting like a talented player! I mean he was lucky to score the goals that he did last season, but not this season! He gave the ball away too easily today and well, I bet Danny Simpson would have done a better job!

So with United slacking in the scoring department, Derby took this opportunity to strike back! It was as if, the United players were SCARED of the Derby players as everytime they were under pressure, the ball was given away cheaply! However, no matter what Derby put in to score today, my United man-of-the-match, Ben Foster definitely lived up to his hype! He made outstanding saves which is good for a debutant!

Half time ended at 0 - 0 and definitely the frustrations were there! And I was hoping for a change or two in the second half!

Unfortunately, there were non as Fergie decided his squad was good enough! The second half started much like the first half where United dominated but failed to score and Derby seizing every single chance they have to try and be the Giant Killers of the week!

Finally past the 60th Minute, Fergie decides its time to give a hardworking Park a break (which I think was a bad mistake) and also Paul Scholes. Out they went, in came Louis Saha and Michael Carrick!

I never liked Carrick, although sometimes I admit he does a good job in big matches, but in matches like this... He's purely dissapointing! Well apart from his accurate passing, he does give the ball away rather cheaply and as a holding midfielder, its bad to lose the ball at those dangerous areas.

So chances once again were spurned and Roy Carrol, a former United player put in a excellent display to deny his former employers from scoring! Frustration begin to pile up and with 2 strikers up front, one can't help but wonder WHY ARE THEY NOT SCORING?

Let me see Reason Number 1: Louis Saha
Reason Number 2: Louis Saha
Reason Number 3: Louis Saha...

the list goes on and still my reasons would be the same! Now, I've been like ranting to friends over and over again, GET HIM OUT of here... but yet over at the United side, they are loyal to him and want to give him more chances! Hell, they sold Rossi and Nilsterooy who were goal-machines and yet this guy gets more credit for not scoring? The hell with him... He should be on the MUST GO list this summer not on the LONG TERM contract lists.

He gave the ball away cheaply, he couldn't control the ball, he couldn't take on defenders, he never works for the ball and yet, he's still on the pitch running like a headless chicken. I mean even if Giggs is old and worn out, he does a better job than Saha... It's real sad...

Well if it wasn't for pure desperation and luck, the goal wouldn't have come and definitely Arsene Wenger and his bunch of gooners would be laughing at the score! What? Title contenders and beating the lowest league club 1-0! No way!

There is definitely nothing to boast about on this match... But i would really suggest the hotline thing to the United board. Sometimes the fans can manage the club better than the manager! Sigh! Hopefully their eyes are opened and they work harder in the comming week to face Liverpoos!

P.s - a funny highlight of the match would be the substitution of the Referee!
