With results like the one at Derby being disappointing, Ferguson decided to change half the squad for today's game with Bolton and most probably try and rest his key players for this weekend's clash with Liverpool!
Players like Pique, Fletcher, O'shea and Kuszcack were given starts as they try to extend their lead in the title race. Nani and Anderson returned to replace Giggs and Scholes respectively and Saha was given a start as well.
Captain of the day? Ronaldo! I think Fergie might have thought the captain's armband would give Ronny a boost in confidence and maybe try and break the great George Best's record of 32 goals from a wide player.
Bolton known to be a tough and physical team, started well as they tried to test the United goal in numerous ways, but all of it was blocked out by the organized defence we had at the back.
Soon, United got into their rhythm and from a corner by Nani, Tevez tried to do a bicycle kick but failed to get it pass the Bolton defender who rebounded it back only for it to fall into the feet of Ronaldo which in a flash, it ended at the back of the net.
The stadium was estatic as Ronaldo has finally equalled George Best's Record of 32 goals. It's a great feat for the Portugese youngster as it clearly shows why he's the Best Player in the World right now! Ironically the advertisement boards started flashing "BEST since BEST" which reminded his critics that he is in fact a force to be reckoned with!
Now, Bolton pressed on and they had a great chance which was brilliantly stopped by the second-choice goalie, Kuszcack. Soon Bolton fell behind even more with a brilliantly taken freekick by the man of the moment, Ronaldo! Looks like the captain's armband is doing him well! There were couple of other chances which were missed by Saha, O'Shea and Tevez which I think Fergie would have expected them to score.
Second half on the way... and United starts to get back into the same mood they had in Derby. Barely testing the Bolton goal, the opposition players start lining up attacks after attacks and well they did manage to score but only to have it disallowed!
Clearly, there were alot of miss chances for the United squad as the main reason would be their selfishness of wanting to score! Once again, Saha gets himself injured in a match and hopefully this would be an eye-opener for Fergie which may lead him to some changes in the summer!
Fergie's frustrations were also clearly seen when Nani and Tevez both missed beautiful chances and I guess there would be fireworks in the dressing room later.
Either than those chances, nothing really sparked the second half and it ended with United 2-0 winners!
However, in London, Tottenham scored 4 goals against Chelsea and Chelsea did the same, thrilling match till the end and I guess the scoreline was fair for both teams!
